Princess Aurora, an update

You may have followed the tale of "Princess Aurora"....

how she came to be a princess and how she came to steal all of our hearts in the process.

her arrival
here

how she got her name
here

and as of today, she has now been ruling over us all  for16 wonderful weeks.

Being a preemie, Aurora started out with a very fragile outlook.

she was about 1/2 the size of a normal new born calf.

But she was unaware that everyone else doesnt start out so little and she lived "large". Within 10 days, she was too heavy to lift easily and in a short 4 weeks she went from 25 pounds to 60.

Along the way, she went from being a tad smaller than a dog

and drinking from a goat nipple, to a regular bottle....

The bottle on the left is a normal calf bottle, holding two quarts of milk. The bottle on the right uses a goat feeding nipple to adjust for the smaller size of the preemie.

And speaking of bottles! Here is Aurora now!

ta da!

she totally mastered the art of the bottle and joyfully drags it around, flipping it up in the air to get sips. Even though she is now weaned and eats a diet of hay, grass and calf cereal, she still drinks a bottle of icy cold water every day.

 Can you say indulged much?

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Aurora has gotten much bigger than the dogs that watched over her so gently in the beginning.

and just like all good fairy tales, they are living happily ever after.
